Palletways is the largest pallet network in Europe. The company currently processes around 12,700 pallets daily in the UK, and a total of 18,000 pallets daily across Europe. In order to meet its overnight / next day commitment to customers, Palletways is keen to take advantage of any technological developments that will support its service levels.
To help manage forklift costs and highlight operator training requirements for example, Palletways installed a forklift fleet management system across its new fleet of 51 Caterpillar GP25N LPG forklift trucks. Equipment supplier Briggs Equipment worked with Transmon to implement the Data Savure system across the new fleet at Palletways' UK hub in Fradley, Lichfield in Staffordshire.
Transmon’s TDS1 Data Savure offers password controlled driver access, which means only authorised, qualified drivers are able to operate the trucks’ ignition. This, together with an impact monitoring and measuring feature, pinpoints driver responsibility and enables accountability, which promotes careful, safe and efficient driving at all times.
The system can identify when a driver is due for refresher training, with a programmable
reminder service that limits access until the required training has taken place.
It also records the number of operational hours, so that service and maintenance
schedules can be programmed in.
All data recorded by TDS1 on Palletways’ site can be viewed live throughout the day and is conveniently collected wirelessly. This means that the information can be immediately used to benefit the operation, by enhancing safe practice, reducing cost and boosting efficiency.
By installing Transmon’s system, Palletways has invested in minimising damage and is demonstrating a commitment to protecting its customers' freight. Hayley Vernon, Hub Operations Assistant Manager at Palletways, explains "As well as helping with internal cost management, the Data Savure has been a good tool for identifying any maintenance requirements, controlling truck access, monitoring the trucks’ operational hours to aid Briggs with its servicing schedules and most importantly, acts as reassurance to our customers".
The Operations Hub is currently testing the impact recording feature as well as other settings of the Data Savure, in order to maximise the system and enhance the operation.
"Transmon has been very supportive during the set-up, and has run a number of training sessions throughout the department" Hayley continues "The system is running smoothly and it is continually in use".
Transmon manufactures a number of integrated systems which can be fitted to new and used trucks, to help make operations more efficient, environmentally friendly and safer.
