Depending on the configuration, the system will automatically slow the truck down when a hazard is detected, or bring it to a complete standstill through the vehicle’s braking system. Our Forklift Collision Avoidance Systems

Our collision avoidance products are available at three levels of intervention, from automatic slowdown through to bringing the truck to a complete standstill. Each level is explained below, so you can see which configuration best suits your trucks, your site and the risks you need to manage.

Level 1

Automatic Slowdown

Slows the truck when a hazard is detected

Level 1 provides automatic speed reduction the moment a hazard enters the detection zone. An iTEch-7 or RSPC2 speed controller is connected to a camera or proximity warning system - when a pedestrian, object or vehicle is detected, the truck automatically slows to a safe, pre-set speed. The driver stays in full control throughout, with the system working quietly in the background until it is needed.

Level 2

Standstill via Electronic Braking

Slows the truck, then brings it to a stop using the vehicle's own electronic brake

Level 2 goes a step further, bringing the truck to a complete standstill. Modern materials handling equipment - particularly electric trucks - uses sensor-based throttle and braking controls. Level 2 works with this system. One trigger slows the truck when a hazard is detected, and a second applies the vehicle's own brake, bringing it safely to a stop. A camera or proximity warning system provides the detection.

Level 3

OEM Hydraulic Brake Activation

Brings any truck to a stop by activating the OEM hydraulic braking system

Level 3 is our original system that brings the truck to a standstill by activating the OEM hydraulic braking system, making it suitable for the widest range of trucks regardless of their onboard electronics.

In practice: a truck reversing at 10mph detects a pedestrian at 8 metres and automatically slows to 5mph. If the hazard remains in the truck's path at 4 metres, the brake is applied and the truck is brought to a standstill. To continue, the driver must check behind and press a reset button to restore speed.

Because the system detects people, pallets and walls alike, a creep-mode override allows the operator to approach a load or structure deliberately. Paired with tag-based pedestrian detection, no override is needed - the system only ever responds to people.

Our Hazard Detection Solutions

Transmon’s collision avoidance systems use multiple detection technologies to identify pedestrians, objects, and other vehicles around your forklift. We can deploy camera systems, proximity warning technology, or both depending on your operational requirements. The detection system integrates seamlessly with our iTEch speed controllers to provide automatic speed reduction or emergency stopping when hazards are identified.

Camera-Based Detection System

Our camera-based detection system provides visual hazard identification using multiple cameras positioned around the forklift truck. The system monitors blind spots and high-risk areas, automatically triggering speed reduction when pedestrians or objects are detected. Cameras are particularly effective in open warehouse environments and provide operators with visual confirmation of detected hazards.

The system can distinguish between different types of obstacles and provides graduated response based on proximity and risk level. Camera options include Proxicam and Blaxtair.

Proximity Warning Detection System

The proximity warning system uses transponder technology to detect personnel and other equipped vehicles within configurable detection zones around your forklift. Each person carries a tag that communicates their location and status – whether they’re operating equipment or working as a pedestrian.

The system provides precise directional information and logs all detection events for safety analysis. This technology works in all weather conditions and provides 360-degree protection, making it ideal for environments where consistent tag compliance can be maintained.
